On 9th of June 2018 from 5 to 12 p.m. around 70 scientific institutions open their doors in Berlin and on the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam. During the event you can experience science and research and visit places that otherwise are closed for the public. Many scientific experiences are prestented to the visitors at the different institutions. Speeches, workshops and “take part in” actions await the grown-ups and children.
At the health center Buch several houses open their doors: the Max-Delbrück-Centrum for molecular medicine in the Helmholtz community and the Leibniz Research Institut for molecular pharmacology the Charité university medicine Berlin and also the HELIOS Klinikum Berlin Buch. Furthermore the BBB Management GmbH Campus Berlin-Buch and the vitreous laboratory are part of the event.
“Hall 8” of the heart center Berlin is one of the top modern hybrid surgery halls and usually strictly closed for visitors. Saturday night the heart center opens its doors for visitors and gives impressions of the most modern heart medicine. More than 110.000 heart surgeries are worked on here. From the treatment of inborn cardiac defects, over minimal invasive surgery to the transplantation of heart and lung, they even worked on artificial cardiac systems here.
For the Long Night of Sciences among other there was prepared a 3D film about a heart surgery.
At serveral areas in Berlin guided biciyle tours will take place. The tours give interesting historical and scientific backgrounds with local relation. The tours last one hour and take place at three times: 5 to 6 p.m., 6.30 to 7.30 p.m., 8 to 9 p.m. A registration for the bicicle tour is needed.
